REST For The Weary!

What does the word "weary" mean anyway? According to dictionary.com part of the definition is:

wea·ry    –adjective
1. Physically or mentally exhausted by hard work, exertion, strain, etc.; fatigued; tired: weary eyes; a weary brain.

2. Characterized by or causing fatigue: a weary journey.

3. Impatient or dissatisfied with something (often fol. by of ): weary of excuses.

4. Characterized by or causing impatience or dissatisfaction; tedious; irksome: a weary wait.
Many people would have to say "yes, that fits my life".  It fits much of our society. What about you?  How is your journey?

Weary people
God created humankind.  He knows and understands our needs.  The Bible is His primary message to us to show us His love, concern and plan for our lives.  Maybe you have never read this amazing book and are living with wrong perceptions of God's message to you.  This message is very personal.  The Heavenly Father sent His Son, Jesus, to this earth to show us the way back to Him.  We have been spiritually "disconnected" since the disobedient choices of the original pair of humans.  Jesus took care of that disconnect- if you want to get reconnected.

In the book of Matthew, chapter 11 we get the strong warning and condemnation by Jesus of those who had seen His miracles and heard his teachings and still rejected His message.  But to those who would accept his message He provides these very encouraging words (verses 27-30, MKJV).

All things are delivered to Me by My Father. And no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son will reveal Him. Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke on you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.
Is this Good News to you?  Do you long for a rest for your soul?  Are you worn-out from work, family problems or concerns about our world's direction? This will be good news if you recognize you can't get this rest or this burden release on your own.  It won't come from other people or a job or a house. Nor can you get this rest in a religion, but only from God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son. Accept the promise of Jesus and submit your will to His.

That doesn't mean that everything in your life will be "rosy" or problem free.  Far from it.  But you WILL recognize a peace that will go beyond mere understanding.

In another passage of scripture Jesus expands on this topic.  The words of Jesus can be quit shocking because His spiritual principles are often the opposite of how the "normal" human mind thinks. This is Matthew 5:1-12 (MKJV)

And seeing the multitudes, He went up into a mountain. And when He had sat down, His disciples came to Him. And He opened His mouth and taught them, saying,
Blessed are the poor in spirit! For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
Blessed are they that mourn! For they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek! For they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness! For they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful! For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart! For they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers! For they shall be called the sons of God.
Blessed are they who have been persecuted for righteousness sake! For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.

The choice remains yours- carry your burdens and be weary or seek out a restored relationship with your Creator.  Those of us who have made this choice have no desire to take our burdens back!
