EXTRA! EXTRA! Read All About it!
This was the cry of the newspaper boy made during the World War II era as he held up that special edition. Of course, he and the newspaper wanted to sell newspapers. But this cry to sell a paper went deeper than that. Something BIG had HAPPENED! The people needed to know the news, especially if it was GOOD NEWS, during a time of war and world conflict. As one was walking down the street in a major metropolitan city, it might have been a little annoying to be jolted away from a mission or daily plan by the loud cry of a little kid shouting for your attention to sell a newspaper. Put yourself in the position of grabbing that paper and reading the headline like "WAR ENDS IN EUROPE" on May 8, 1945 or "JAPAN SURRENDERS TO ALLIES" on September 2, 1945. Probably just about anything you would have been doing would have immediately seemed insignificant compared to GOOD NEWS like that! You would have been grateful for that annoying newspaper boy- he just made your day!
